lotus flower what ifWhat if…two simple words that can make such a big difference in our lives. Two words which can stop us literally from moving on, or from doing something that is not only good for us but also for many others.

I am lately crossing paths with people who literally feel a calling, feel they are destined to do something for humanity, to promote peace and equality and to make this world a better one. Yet many are still feeling stuck, bringing up all kinds of “what if’s” into their thinking.

There have been some telling me that they get thoughts such as “why should I be the one to work on this?” or “how can I make a difference when I’m just one person?” or “what if I get into trouble while trying to make a difference?” or “what if I end up getting punished for standing up for those who need help?”

It is understandable that we have such thoughts and concerns, after all we are human, aren’t we? But the important thing lies here…

We should acknowledge these thoughts, yes. Yet we shouldn’t allow these thoughts to stop us from speaking up for those who don’t yet have a voice, or whose voices have been silenced.

Think about it…although we are not yet living in a perfect world where harmony, peace and equality are reigning, yet we are living in a far better world than what others in the past have lived through. Why? Because before we came along there were courageous people who weren’t afraid to voice the truth. They stood up for those who couldn’t, and they did their best no matter what society expected of them. They stood up for what they believed in.

Sure, they have had “what if’s”, but they didn’t let these “what if’s” silence the truth. They did it not only for those living at that time, but also for us and for all coming after us.

These are hard times for all of us. We are all going through some dilemmas in our lives right now. The Universe is pushing us towards shedding what is not us, so we can indeed let ourselves be who we are truly meant to be. So it is not an easy time especially to all of us who feel this kind of calling to make this world a better place. We can however push through these “what if” feelings and not let them stop us. If we are indeed acting on what we truly believe in our hearts to be for the greatest good of all, then we should let nothing stop us from standing up for those who need us. I do believe that we have indeed chosen to come to this world at this place and time so that we can help in this shift that the world is going through, and it is up to us to fulfill this purpose.

Additionally, I also do believe that we bring about what we think about. In other words, if we focus our thoughts on worry, doubt or stress, then we will bring about such experiences for ourselves.

So next time you feel yourself doubting what may happen if you do speak up on what you believe in, stop yourself and change your perspective. Do not think about why it won’t work or what may happen…instead think about why it will work and why all is going to be fine. And I promise you that if you do keep a positive perspective on what you are doing, then nothing will stand in your way of voicing your beliefs!

One final thought…the lotus flower. It emerges from the lowest points of muddy swamps, growing from the mud at the bottom of ponds and streams, and rises above water. No matter where it has been or where it is lying in, the lotus flower is one of the most beautiful flowers there is. Its beauty is flawless.

You, like the lotus flower, do not worry about what ‘mud’ may emerge or surround you if you do stand up for what you believe in. For no matter where you are or what you’re surrounded with, your intention is pure, beautiful, flawless, just like the beauty of the lotus flower.

Be yourself, be true to yourself. Follow your passion. Listen to that voice inside your heart…it’s the voice of your soul urging you to be who you are truly meant to be.

Make a difference because you can. Be the change.

I leave you with this song, which I truly feel adds to the feeling I want to convey through this blogpost…enjoy!

BOBBY MCFERRIN LYRICS

“Don’t Worry, Be Happy”

Here’s a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don’t worry be happy
In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don’t worry, be happyOoh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don’t worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don’t worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
(Don’t worry, be happy)

Ain’t got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
Don’t worry, be happy
The land lord say your rent is late
He may have to litigate
Don’t worry, be happy
(Look at me I am happy)

Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don’t worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be Happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
Here I give you my phone number
When you worry call me, I make you happy
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don’t worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh

Ain’t got no cash, ain’t got no style
Ain’t got no girl to make you smile
But don’t worry be happy
‘Cause when you worry
Your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
So don’t worry, be happy
Don’t worry, be happy now

Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don’t worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
Don’t worry, be happy
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don’t worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
Don’t worry be happy
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don’t worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don’t worry sweetie, be happy)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
(Put a smile on your face, don’t bring everybody down)
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(Don’t worry)
Ooh oo-ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh
(It will soon pass, celebrate it)
Ooh oo-ooh oo-ooh
Don’t worry, be happy
I’m not worried, I’m happy
